(1) Subject to subregulation (2), a standard of measurement that on verification is found not to be greater or less than its denomination by an amount exceeding the amount of permissible variation specified in Table 3 and which is used to verify standards or measuring instruments in use for trade—
  • (a)may, if it is a primary or secondary standard of measurement, be deemed to be of value equal to its denominations;
  • (b)shall, if it is a reference standard of measurement be deemed to be of value equal to its denomination, unless the certificate issued under regulation 10 states otherwise.
(2) The variation of the standard of measurement from its denomination stated in the certificate issued by the Director shall be determined to an uncertainty that is equal to or better than the maximum permissible uncertainty for that standard prescribed in Table 3.
